Retail Farmers’ Markets Newsletter Reports On Products and Prices at Local Markets Statewide

May 23, 2014

What’s the average price of a dozen eggs at the farmers’ market? How much should consumers expect to spend on farm-fresh asparagus, tomatoes or spinach? What prices are market vendors charging for whole chickens? For 21 years, the Market News Service of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) has published Retail Farmers’ Markets to report prices from markets and farm stands across the Commonwealth. This free VDACS service for consumers, farmers, vendors and market managers is published once a month from May to September.

The first 2014 edition of Retail Farmers’ Markets will be available May 30 on the Virginia Market News Service website. It’s also distributed via email and U.S. mail at no cost to subscribers.

Thanks to the participation of multiple retailers throughout the state, Retail Farmers’ Markets is able to provide consumers and producers with coverage of markets in the Central Valley, Northern Virginia, Richmond, Southside Virginia, Southwest Virginia and Virginia Beach.

If you are a vendor or market manager in Virginia and would like to be included in Retail Farmers’ Markets reporting, contact Virginia Market News Service using the information below.
