AFBF secures USDA aid for dairy farmers affected by HPAI

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has responded to the American Farm Bureau Federation's (AFBF) request by committing to compensate dairy farmers for 90% of their milk production losses caused by highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).
This support comes as a relief to the dairy industry, which has been advocating for federal assistance through the AFBF.
Zippy Duvall, President of the AFBF, praised the USDA’s decision, noting the importance of such support for dairy farmers implementing increased biosecurity measures to combat the spread of HPAI.
This financial aid is expected to help farmers mitigate the immediate financial impact of the outbreak and maintain the overall health and productivity of their herds.
The USDA's commitment reflects its ongoing effort to support the agricultural community, particularly in ensuring that dairy farmers are not disproportionately impacted by the challenges posed by infectious diseases like HPAI. The funding will also contribute to the stability of milk prices and supply, crucial for the economy and public health.
This initiative is part of the USDA’s broader strategy to work closely with agricultural stakeholders to tailor support programs that effectively address the specific needs and challenges of the farming community.
The collaboration between USDA and AFBF in shaping this assistance program demonstrates a successful partnership aimed at strengthening the resilience of the U.S. dairy sector.
