Manitoba Corn Looks Tall And Tassled

Aug 04, 2015
Corn in Manitoba is looking good and tall, thanks to good weather. Most corn crops are moving into the pollination stages, with some areas still silking and tassling.

Manitoba Corn Growers field agronomist, Morgan Cott says the humidity has been good for corn, but hopefully weather doesn't get too hot as crops are in pollination.

She also says producers should be on the lookout for European corn borer.

"It's tending to be up high in the plants, kind of around the tassles," she says. "I'm finding larvae in the tassles, already boring into the stocks, and some are even knocking stocks over already. So it's really important to get a good look and assess where the corn borers are in the plant, how mature they are, and how many there are."
