Disaster Relief Program Helps Farmers Recover Crop Loss Damages

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced a new round of financial aid for farmers and ranchers who faced crop losses due to natural disasters in 2023 and 2024. A total of $16 billion will be available through the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program (SDRP).

Applications for the relief program will open on Thursday, July 10. Farmers and producers can apply at their local Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices. To simplify the process, USDA is mailing pre-filled application forms directly to eligible producers based on past records.

This disaster assistance program is designed to provide timely support for farmers who suffered from extreme weather events such as drought, floods, wildfires, or hurricanes. It is part of USDA’s broader mission to help protect and stabilize American agriculture in times of crisis.

Eligible producers must meet the requirements outlined in the SDRP guidelines. These include proving qualifying crop losses and meeting necessary program criteria. USDA encourages farmers to check with their local FSA offices for help with the application process and to get answers to any questions about eligibility.

Farmers do not need to fill out the entire application by hand if they receive the pre-filled version. The mailed forms are meant to save time and reduce paperwork. However, any updates or missing information can be added before submitting.

For more detailed information, producers are encouraged to visit the USDA SDRP webpage or speak directly with staff at their nearest FSA location.

This major funding effort shows USDA’s ongoing commitment to helping America’s producers recover and rebuild from the growing impact of natural disasters.
