Egg Consumers Got Cracking This Year, Study Says

Things are looking sunny side-up for egg farmers in Manitoba. In Winnipeg alone, 91 per cent of those polled this year are either eating the same or more eggs than they were a year ago.
 
Brenda Bazylewski of Manitoba Egg Farmers, says eggs are selling more because they're an affordable food option, but also because there is more variety on the market now than ever before.
 
"It's not just the regular grade-A white, it's free-run, we've got organic production right here in Manitoba, we've got new enriched cages that people can purchase," she says.
 
She also thinks people today have a better understanding of the nutritional value in eggs.
 
"People are really understanding the protein content, the nutritional attributes of eggs," Bazylewski says. "In the 80s and 90s people were concerned about eating eggs because of cholesterol. They now realize that the dietary cholesterol found in foods like eggs -- egg yolks in particular -- does not adversely affected their blood cholesterol for the healthy population."
