Delegate Now Registered For Western Bean Cutworm In Corn

Feb 06, 2017

Corn growers have a new, powerful option to control western bean cutworm in corn. Delegate insecticide from Dow AgroSciences recently received approval from PMRA for control of both western bean cutworm (WBC) and European corn borer in grain corn. It was already registered in sweet, seed and popcorn.

Paul Foran, Product Development Specialist with Dow AgroSciences says, “What started as a couple of isolated pockets of western bean cutworm damage in southern Ontario has now emerged as a more widespread concern among corn growers. This pest affects corn yields and grain quality and because of that, an increasing number of corn acres will be scouted in 2017.”

Foran continues, “Delegate is an excellent choice to control western bean cutworm because it has a long proven history of excellent insect control in horticulture crops, belongs to a unique chemical family that delivers a novel mode of action and is soft on beneficials.”

Delegate is a group 5 insecticide that affects the insect’s nervous system and stops feeding quickly to reduce damage and maximize yield. Delegate works by both contact and ingestion. It is an easy-to-use granule with low use rates.
