British Columbia’s government is taking steps to protect 4.6 million acres of farmland.
Ag minister Lana Popham introduced a bill in November that would limit the size of homes allowed on the Agricultural Land Reserve to about 5,400 square feet (500 square metres).
While some farmers are pleased with the government’s involvement to keep farmland reserved for commercial production, others are concerned the home limits cannot accommodate growing families.
