Michigan December Agricultural Prices

Prices received by Michigan farmers for the full month of December 2016 are listed in the table below.

Some Michigan highlights were: December corn, at $3 .33 per bushel, was up $0. 09 from November and de creased $ 0.23 from last year; December soybeans, at $9.76 per bushel, was up $0.31 from last month and increased $1.36 from last year; December wheat, at $4.13 per bushel, was up $0.19 from November , but decreased $1.50 from last year; December milk, at $17.80 per cwt., was up $1.80 from last month, and increased $1.30 from last year.

The D ecember Prices Received Index (Agricultural Production), at 88.4, increased 5.7 percent from November 2016. At 82.1, the Crop Production Index increased 1.4 percent. At 94.4, the Livestock Production Index increased 9.4 percent. Producers received higher p rices for market eggs, cattle, milk, and hogs but lower prices for oranges, turkeys, tomatoes, and lemons. Compared with a year earlier, the Prices Received Index is down 1.7 percent. The Crop Production Index decreased 2.4 percent and the Livestock Produc tion Index decreased 2.9 percent. In addition to prices, the indexes are influenced by the monthly mix of commodities producers market. Increased monthly movement of oranges, milk, cotton, and broilers offset the decreased marketing of corn, grapes, soybea ns, and calves. The Food Commodities Index, at 93.9, increased 5.2 percent from the previous month but is down 3.0 percent from December 2015.
