KAP Looks Forward To Continued Engagement With Liberal Government

Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) is looking forward to continuing its engagement with the Liberal minority government.

Communications and Government Relations Manager Graham Schellenberg commented on the federal election result.

"Looking forward to continuing our work with the federal government," he said. "We're at a point right now, as in industry here in Canada, where it's not too extreme to say that producers are struggling as this drought continues and really we need the governments here to work together with farm organizations, as they've been doing, as we've been doing with our partners here in Manitoba, as this drought continues. We're looking forward to continuing those conversations in the weeks to come. We know that the drought here has long term impacts and certainly, as an ag minister takes that office, we can't wait to start that conversation."

KAP outlined four main priorities heading into this year's election including Business Risk Management programs, the role of producers as environmental stewards, economic development and public trust in agriculture.

The Liberal's previous Minister of Agriculture Marie Claude-Bibeau was re-elected as MP in the Quebec riding of Compton-Stanstead. Conservative Agriculture Critic Lianne Rood was re-elected in the Ontario riding of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.
