Federal Ag Minister's AgriStability Deadline Passes

Feb 01, 2021
Agriculture Minister Marie Claude Bibeau had set the end of January as the Province's deadline for her AgriStability proposal.

That deadline has come and gone without an agreement from the prairie provinces.

The proposal would remove the reference margin limit and increase the compensation rate to 80 per cent.

Saskatchewan continues to consider the federal government’s proposal and has formally requested that Minister Bibeau convene another ministerial
call to further discuss the proposal.

The cost of the proposed enhancements, under the funding model put forward by the federal government, is considerable in Saskatchewan given the scope of our industry.

The province says it understands the issues producers are facing, it's an important discussion and they want to give it appropriate consideration.

Alberta has also not agreed to the Minister's proposal.

Minister Dreeshin saying they are looking at but notes it still has to go before cabinet and treasurary.

Dreeshin notes Bibeau's proposed changes would mean a $19 million dollar budget change for the Province.
