Competitiveness of Regional Slaughterhouses: Ottawa and Quebec Provide $300,000 in Financial Assistance to Abattoir Zampini Inc.

The Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec announced up to $300,000 in financial assistance for Abattoir Zampini inc. under components 2 and 3 of the Programme d’appui à la compétitivité des abattoirs régionaux (PACAR). The company will use this money to add a new slaughter line for large animals, mainly cattle over 30 months of age and cull cows. The project includes the creation of new animal receiving and holding areas and the acquisition of new equipment.

Jean-Claude Poissant, Parliamentary Secretary to the federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Lawrence MacAulay, and Lise Thériault, Quebec Minister Responsible for the Lanaudière Region, on behalf of the Quebec Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Laurent Lessard, made the announcement, confirming the two governments’ desire to ensure the sustainability and development of animal production sectors by promoting increased competitiveness of slaughterhouses and improved slaughter services in response to regional or sectoral needs.
