2018 South Dakota Pasture Cash Rental Rates

Average cash rental rates per-acre reflect regional differences in productivity and carrying capacity of pasture and rangeland tracts, with fluctuations in the commodity markets and potential profits, affecting cash rental rates.

Average cash rental rates for pasture land varies from $16 per-acre in the Southwest region to $75 per-acre in the East-central region (Figure 1). Typical cash rental rates for low- and high-productivity pasture and rangeland vary from $16.03 to $20.00 per-acre in the Southwest region, and from $49 to $98 per-acre in the East-central region.
 
At the county cluster level, cash rental rate averages for pasture vary from $61 (Bon Homme, Hutchinson, Yankton) to $80 (Minnehaha, Moody) per-acre.  Average cash rental rates vary from $31 (Campbell, Potter, Walworth) to $69 (Grant, Roberts) per-acre across county clusters in the Northeast, North-central, and Central regions.
