This breed is most commonly known as a livestock guardian dog. These dogs are used to protect sheep flocks and live with them year-round. Great Pyrenees keep predators such as coyotes and wolves away from flocks and can act as an alarm or warning system for farmers when people come into the yard. This breed is very protective but also tends to be gentle and mild-mannered towards people.
