Sam Snead, who has 82 total victories on the PGA tour between the 1930s and 1980s, grew up on his family’s chicken farm in Ashwood, Va.
He became interested in golf from watching his brother Homer hit balls around the farm. Sam made his first club using a maple branch with a knotted end.
Sam also periodically left the farm unannounced to caddy at a local course and earn some extra money.
