2024 Cattlemen’s congress - Angus breeders excel

The 2024 Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City was a landmark event for Angus breeders. The Angus Pen & Carload Show, featuring four carloads and nine pens-of-three, highlighted the breed's genetic prowess. 

Express Angus Ranches, based in Yukon, Okla., emerged as a standout, winning the grand champion carload with their September and October 2022 bulls. These bulls, an average of 1,690 pounds and a scrotal circumference of 39.6 centimeters, were sired by renowned bulls such as G A R Hometown and SITZ Incentive 704H.  

The ranch also claimed the reserve grand champion carload with their January 2023 bulls, presenting an impressive average weight and scrotal circumference. 

Kentucky’s Boyd Beef Cattle showcased their breeding excellence with their grand champion pen of three bulls. The January 2023 sons of SG Salvation demonstrated notable weights and scrotal circumferences, winning the early calf champion title. 

Express Angus Ranches continued their winning streak with the reserve grand champion pen of three bulls. Their January 2023 bulls, sired by EXAR Cover the Bases 0819B and EXAR Perfecto 1124B, presented admirable physical attributes. 

In the female category, Cunningham Ranch from Amber, Okla., won the grand champion pen of three heifers with their February 2023 daughters of EXAR Guru 8719B. Linz Heritage Angus from Byars, Okla., earned the reserve grand champion title with their November 2022 daughters. 

This event showcased the best of Angus genetics, underscoring the dedication and skill of Angus breeders. Their commitment to excellence in breeding and nurturing top-quality cattle was evident, making the Cattlemen’s Congress a significant platform for the beef industry.
