WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Farmers and Certified Crop Advisers can explore topics related to soil health and management at a workshop Feb. 21 in Delphi.
The Bi-County Soil Health Conservation Workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST at the Wabash and Erie Canal Interpretive Center, 1030 N. Washington St. It will include topics such as soil health, using manure in crop production, and how to safely extract equipment stuck in mud, featuring Purdue pesticide management specialist Fred Whitford.
Other speakers are Steve Nichols and Mike Veenhuizen of Livestock Engineering Solutions and staff members of the Natural Resource and Conservation Service.
"Each year we try to target topics that seem to be relevant, and one big area this year has been soil health," said Greg Bossaer, Purdue extension educator in White County. "We're also hearing about a lot more producers using their own manure or purchasing manure from a nearby farmer - trying to really understand manure as an important resource and use it efficiently."
Certified Crop Advisers can receive two continuing credit education units in soil and water conservation and one in nutrition management.
Participants can register by contacting the White or Carroll County Extension or Soil and Water Conservation District offices. There is no cost to attend, but registration is due by Feb. 19.
