SAINT-NAZAIRE QC, Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions  (CED)

An important economic engine, the Canadian tourism industry generated annual revenues of more than $100 billion before being hit hard by the pandemic. Today, the Government of Canada is ensuring that tourism thrives again and reaches its full potential.

The Honorable Pascale St‑Onge, Minister of Sports and Minister responsible for CED, today announced a non-repayable contribution of $79,186 to the DJFL – À l'Orée des champs agro‑forestry business.

À l'Orée des champs specializes in sheep production by offering cut and processed raw products from its local production. It also carries out small-scale forestry processing. The family business offers the population of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, as well as its visitors, facilities highlighting the heritage and know-how surrounding lamb meat.

This support from CED will enable L'Orée des champs to develop a tourist micro-destination while respecting eco-responsible practices. It will become a place for showcasing and interpreting lamb charcuterie thanks to the establishment of an economuseum concept on its site in Saint‑Nazaire. The financial contribution will mainly concern the costs related to the production of interpretation content, the layout of the building, the purchase of demonstration equipment, as well as professional fees.

The Government of Canada recognizes and supports businesses and organizations that are a source of pride in their community. Quebec's economic recovery depends in particular on a strong tourism industry whose organizations are rooted in the regional economy. Players in this sector make a significant contribution to growth, in addition to being key assets in rebuilding a stronger, more resilient, greener and fairer economy for all.
