Stateline Dairy and Ag Outlook Seminar Planned for June 27 in Waukon

The Stateline Dairy and Ag Outlook Seminar, "Understanding a Changing Industry," will be held on Thursday, June 27, at Empty Nest Winery, 1352 Apple Road, Waukon, from 9:30 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. This seminar is sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, University of Minnesota Extension and University of Wisconsin Extension.

This seminar is targeted toward assisting ag lenders and farm financial advisers in helping farmers manage risk and understand market outlooks.

"Price risk management continues to be a major variable for profitability in many commodity enterprises,” said Jennifer Bently, dairy specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach. “Understanding the ag markets, as well as strategies, to allow for the next generation to continue farming is a necessary part of lender portfolio management."

Topics to be discussed

  • Dairy Price Outlook – Spotlight on Supply, Demand and Inflation: Leonard Polzin, University of Wisconsin.
  • Legal Tools and Strategies in Farm Succession Planning: Kristine Tidgren, director, ISU Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation.
  • Tax Considerations for the Farm Transition: Kristine Tidgren, director, ISU Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation.
  • Beginning Farmer Loans and Tax Credits: Tammy Nebola/Nicki Howell, Iowa Finance Authority.
  • Land, Livestock and Crop Market Update: Chad Hart, extension grain markets specialist, Iowa State University.

The cost is $50 for agricultural lenders and service providers; $25 for dairy and ag producers along with students. Ag lenders and financial advisers are encouraged to invite and support their producers to attend the seminar. Pre-registration is required.
