The Renfrew County Stewardship Council is pleased to announce the launch of the Renfrew Agricultural Water Quality Leadership Group.
The Stewardship Council is working on this project in partnership with the Renfrew Federation of Agriculture, Renfrew Cattlemen’s Association, Renfrew Soil and Crop Improvement Association, Renfrew Lanark Christian Farmers’ Association and Renfrew South District Women’s Institute. These groups are contributing a combined total of $4950 to the project and $14,850 has been approved under the Growing Forward 2 (GF2) program. This project is to be completed by spring 2015.
Project funding will be used to hire a facilitator to review issues related to water quality and agricultural production. The facilitator will meet with the Boards of Directors for each of the groups to solicit their input into the issue. In addition, the facilitator will seek input from other interested groups and stakeholders including municipal governments, provincial ministries and educational and research institutions. The final report will include a summary of approaches to this issue from other jurisdictions. This project will conclude with a workshop for representatives of the agricultural community and invited participants.
“The Renfrew County Stewardship Council is pleased to be working with our neighbours in the agricultural community on this important issue” says Eric Smith, Chair, Renfrew County Stewardship Council.
