New labelling requirements for Mexico

Jul 07, 2020
“Companies currently exporting to Mexico or those that are considering entering the Mexican market need to be aware of the new front-of-package nutritional labelling changes,” says Meghan Horosko, trade and relations officer for Latin America at Alberta Agriculture and Forestry.

She points to the June 9, 2020 bulletin from the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service.

“This bulletin offers comprehensive information for Alberta food and non-alcoholic beverage companies about these new labelling changes that are mandatory for both domestic and imported products in Mexico.”

These changes aim to encourage Mexicans to adopt a healthier diet, and they will be implemented in 3 stages. The first stage is set to begin on October 1, 2020 and includes major changes.

She adds that another good resource for Alberta exporters is the recorded webinar – New Labelling Regulations on Agri-Food Products in Mexico.
