Michigan winter wheat seeded area for 2015 is estimated at 500 ,000 acres, a decrease of 12 percent from last year, according to the USDA, NASS, Great Lakes Regional Office. Winter Wheat seeding began in early September, on pace with the 5 - year average, and was completed by mid - November. Planting largely finishe d on schedule, but by the end of November, only 89 percent of plantings had emerged, behind the 5 - year average. At the end of November, 64 percent of the crop was rated good - to - excellent.
