Mexico will lift trade restrictions on Canadian beef

Jun 28, 2016
One of the last remaining BSE trade restrictions will be eliminated in October.

Mexico has agreed to accept imports of Canadian beef over the age of 30 months, more than 13 years after the ban was imposed.

Ironically, Mexico was one of the first countries to lift a ban on under 30 month Canadian beef in the summer of 2003.

John Masswohl is the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association international trade expert.

Even with the current trade restrictions, he says Mexico is one of Canada’s top three markets, buying an average of 135 million dollars in beef in the past few years.
