Over 400 runners participated in either a 10km, 3.5km or the children’s Weaner Race. All abilities were encouraged to participate, as the emphasis was truly placed on bringing together the community to have fun and raise money for a good cause.
A record $45,000 was raised in the 11th annual Hog Jog. More than $369,000 has been donated to charitable causes within rural Ontario since the Ontario Pork Industry Council began the fundraiser in 2005. This year’s proceeds were in support of Stratford/Perth Shelterlink. The organization provides food, basic needs, safe hostel living and advocacy services to youth who are currently homeless or at risk.
Each year a new charitable organization is selected. The 2017 Hog Jog will support Optimism Place, a shelter for children and woman experiencing domestic abuse.
