Grain Storage Safety Conference Slated April 22 In Sinton

The Coastal Bend Grain Storage and Handlers Safety Conference will be held  April 22 at the San Patricio County Fairgrounds Civic Center, according to Bobby McCool, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent for agriculture and natural resources in San Patricio County.
 
The fairgrounds are located at 219 W. 5th St. in Sinton. Registration is at 8 a.m. The program starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. A registration fee of $20 is payable at the door and includes lunch at the Butter Churn Restaurant. Attendees must RSVP by April 17 by calling 361-364-6234.

The Coastal Bend Grain Storage and Handlers Safety Conference will be held April 22 in Sinton. 
 
A certificate of attendance and two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available – one in integrated pest management and one general.
 
“With safety an ever-present issue in and around grain storage facilities, many can benefit from this program, including management, employees and personnel at farms with on-site storage units,” McCool said. “We’ll be discussing various safety related topics, and demonstrations are slated for the daylong program.”

—  Occupational Safety and Health Administration Updates, Marianne McGee, OSHA compliance assistance specialist, Corpus Christi.
 
—  Sweep Augers and Grain Bin Safety, James Shepard, Texas Cotton Ginners Trust, Austin.
 
—  Fumigation Hazards, Bill Ordner, Town and Country Pest Control, Corpus Christi.
 
—  Confined Spaces, Jason Lee, Planters Co-op, Odem.
 
—  Trauma Response, Dr. James Mobley, San Patricio County health director, Sinton.
 
—  Live Grain Engulfment Demonstration, Planters Co-op – Sinton Facility, located on U.S. Highway 181 between Sinton and Taft.
 
The conference is sponsored by AgriLife Extension; the Nueces, San Patricio and Refugio County Farm Bureaus; Woodsboro Farmers Co-op; South Texas Country Elevators Association; and Capital Farm Credit.
