Agricorp Reports Strong 2023 Ontario Corn, Soybean Yields

Jan 19, 2024

Ontario crop insurer Agricorp is reporting strong corn and soybean yields in the province this past growing season.

As of Jan. 12, the average soybean yield reported by producers enrolled in production insurance was 53 bu/acre, up from the 10-year average of 48 bu and above Statistics Canada’s December provincewide estimate of 51.4 bu/acre.

The final corn yield is still not set, with some corn remaining out in the field and yield reports still coming in. However, Agricorp said its customers’ yields are trending higher than the 10-year average of 184 bu/acre. StatsCan last month put the average all-Ontario corn yield at 170.9 bu/acre.

As the maps below show, some of the strongest corn and soybean yields were reported by crop insurance customers in Oxford County. Yields were also strong in Essex and Kent counties, along with pockets of eastern Ontario, including Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. On the other hand, the Niagara region and Grey County were among those areas where yields were much weaker.
