Farmers for soil health opens for enrollment
The Farmers for Soil Health program is now open for enrollment, targeting a bold expansion of cover crops across the U.S. to reach 30 million acres by 2030. This initiative is strategically supported by major agricultural stakeholders, including corn, pork, and soy commodity groups, to promote sustainable farming through increased use of cover crops.
Farmers enrolling in the program will benefit from significant financial incentives and technical assistance aimed at enhancing soil health and agricultural sustainability. The first year saw an impressive participation, with 238 farmers covering more than 78,000 acres under the initiative.
Participants receive financial support tailored to their specific needs—either $50 per acre over three years for new cover crop acres or a one-time $2 per acre for maintaining existing cover crops. The program emphasizes the importance of soil and water conservation and provides essential tools to support farmers in adopting more sustainable practices.
