Rain has been putting a damper on the harvest this year.
In many cases rain has made desiccating, swathing and now combining a challenge in many areas.
Dorian Sondrol farms in the Gull Lake/Cabri area and so far has taken off some Peas and Barley.
The Peas were good quality and came in around 50 to 55 bushels an acre, while the barley ran about 80 to 89 bushels an acre.
He’s not sure if it will make malt but he’ll be sending a sample away later this week.
He says he still has some lentils to bring in and like most producers this year is concerned about the quality with all the rain we had.
Despite all of the moisture, some combines have been on the move in Southwest Saskatchewan
Doug Logan farms in the Gull Lake area and says rain has delayed some of their plans noting he just got started a few days ago.
When we caught up to him he was working on red lentils and notes with all the rain they’ve had to spray a couple of their fields twice for disease.
On the bright side, Logan says he’s looking forward to getting into his barley and durum.
"I don't know if I have ever seen a crop like this before," he said.
