Wall Government Sells Hopper Grain Car Fleet

Jul 06, 2017

The Saskatchewan government has sold its 900 hopper grain car fleet for 9.7 million dollars.

Grain car minister David Marit says the fleet was sold to three short-line railways in Saskatchewan, ensuring the rail cars will continue to move Saskatchewan grain to market.

He says the sale price averages 10 thousand 800 dollars per car.

All offers were reviewed by an evaluation committee which included an independent consultant.

The government says Big Sky Rail gets 663 hopper cars, Great Western Railway obtains 150 cars, and Great Sandhills Railway receives 85 cars.

The sale of the government’s grain hopper car fleet was announced this spring.
