Trump Announces E15 Year-Round

Oct 11, 2018
Yesterday evening, President Trump directed the EPA to being the rule making process to allow for the sale of E15 year-round. This announcement is welcome news to corn country and the biofuels industry.

Colorado Corn Growers Association (CCGA) and Colorado Corn Administrative Committee (CCAC) applaud President Trump for keeping his campaign promise to lift the summer restrictions on E15. Current outdated regulations limit the sale of E15 during the summer months. Updating this regulation, which was issued before the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved E15 in 2011, will further environmental policy goals. E15 and other higher biofuel blends produce fewer tailpipe emissions.

"Permitting the sale of E15 year-round is positive for the biofuels industry from field to pump; for consumers because it gives all of us a higher octane, lower priced option at the pump, and it’s positive for the environment," said CCGA President, Dave Eckhardt. "We are pleased the first step towards eliminating this outdated regulation is taking place and look forward to a resolution being in place by next summer.

Farmers across the country have advocated for year-round sales of higher ethanol blends like E15 for several years. CCGA along with other biofuel advocates are pleased with the Presidents directive. Additional thanks go to USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue along with the numerous Senators and Representatives who support ethanol, biofuels, and the grain corn industry.
