NFU Highlights Trade Policy Impact on Farmers

Rob Larew, President of the National Farmers Union (NFU), recently criticized the White House’s decision to implement new reciprocal tariffs, predicting dire consequences for US agriculture.

Larew expressed deep concerns over the escalating global trade war's impact on American family farmers and ranchers, who he claims will suffer the most. "The economic strain and uncertainty that farmers face have reached a breaking point," Larew explained.

These comments came after the announcement of a new 10% tariff on goods from key trade partners, adding to the pressures from existing tariffs on countries like Mexico and Canada.

The NFU has long advocated for equitable trade relationships that benefit American agriculture. The latest tariffs threaten the stability that family farms rely on, potentially leading to significant losses in the agricultural community and adverse effects on rural economies.

The union emphasized that the repercussions of these tariffs extend beyond agriculture, potentially affecting the entire food supply chain and increasing costs for consumers.

In a proactive step, the NFU, along with 17 other agricultural organizations, has urged the administration to pursue a trade strategy that strengthens rather than undermines American agriculture.
