MU Sheep and Goats Field Day is July 12

Jun 28, 2024

The second annual sheep and goats field day is less than two weeks away,” says David Brown, University of Missouri Extension livestock specialist in small ruminants. The event focuses on the health awareness program for sheep and goat farmers.

Brown encourages producers to attend because it will be an opportunity for producers to gain insights; learn about disease prevalence, causes and control as well as latest research advancements; and network with fellow livestock enthusiasts.

The field day is July 12 at the MU Southwest Research, Extension and Education Center, 14548 Highway H, Mount Vernon. The event runs 10 a. m. to 4 p. m.

By registering for the event, producers will have the chance to win a Vit-A-Zine mineral package for their sheep and goats, Brown said.

Brown further outlines the activities planned at this event and why attendance of the field day will be important to your sheep and goat operation:

Expert presentations. Producers will hear from veterinarians and industry experts who will share their knowledge on disease prevention and control, best management practices and innovative techniques.

Hands-on demonstrations. Producers will participate in fecal egg count demonstration, FAMACHA training and certification and Five-Point Check.

Networking opportunities. Attendees can connect with other producers and industry professionals to exchange ideas and experiences and build valuable relationships.

Marketing strategies. There will be discussion of basic marketing concepts for selling sheep and goats and their products.

Lamb cooking demo. Producers will learn five cooking techniques for preparing lamb.

Exhibition. A showcase of innovative products and services from leading industry suppliers.

Registration fee is $25 per participant and includes snacks, coffee, pizza, salad, lamb chops/meatball, as well as classroom materials. Register by July 10 at http://muext.us/SheepGoatsFieldDay2024.
