Funding for the Manure Management Financial Assistance Program (MMFAP) has been renewed for another year by the provincial government.
Since the program was introduced in 2011, the program has invested more than $8.4 million in 92 Manitoba hog operations with funding going towards building additional manure storage capacity, repairing manure storage structures and installing new treatment systems.
"We know Manitoba's farmers want to do their best for the long-term sustainability of the land, the water and their business," said Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (MAFRD) Minister Ron Kostyshyn. "This program has been a valuable resource for pig producers who want to implement better manure management practices and, as a result, we will be extending funding for one more year. Just as importantly, the changes implemented through MMFAP help reduce the amount of phosphorus and other nutrients that end up in Lake Winnipeg, which will improve and protect water quality."
The government contribution can be used for up to 65 per cent of project costs, to a maximum of $100,000 dollars for manure storage repairs, $125,000 for new manure storage systems or $375,000 for manure treatment projects.
