Fertilizer Canada is pleased the tentative agreement reached between Unifor and St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) was ratified late yesterday, providing stability to trade along the St. Lawrence Seaway. The Seaway reopened Monday, October 30th after the tentative agreement was announced and is an important trade corridor for fertilizer imports and exports. We appreciate the work from the federal government and Minister O’Regan to end the strike and reopen the Seaway.
Canada’s supply chains continue to face considerable challenges. This is the second labour dispute in the last four months that has shutdown Canadian ports that are crucial to Canada’s trade. The federal government must strengthen our supply chains and accelerate the recommendations of the National Supply Chain Task Force, including addressing systemic labour-dispute delays. Strengthening Canada’s supply chains is critical to protecting Canada’s economy and our reputation as a reliable, stable trading partner on the world stage.
