By Steve Whittington

Michigan State University Extension will continue the Farm Policy and Risk Management Series with a session all about field crops on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of this series is to aid producers in understanding risk protection programs for specific crop types. This webinar will focus on USDA insurance programs for field crop producers.

The focus for the next session in this series will be field crop risk management programs offered by the United States Department of Agriculture. It will be hosted by MSU Extension’s Field Crop Educator Steve Whittington and Farm Business Management Educator Jon LaPorte. Additionally, this session will feature industry insurance specialists Devin Roth from Greenstone Farm Credit Services and Jessica Braeutigam with Growers Crop Insurance Agency who have experience in risk protection programs related to field crops here in Michigan. You can expect this session to cover the basics of insurance, different policies for field crops, and the advantages and disadvantages of these policies. This session will focus primarily on two crop insurance programs: Yield Protection and Revenue Protection. This session will review the difference between yield and revenue policies, how each provides protection, and the advantages and disadvantages of each. We welcome you to join this session and discuss any questions you may have about risk management programs in field crop production.

The Farm Policy and Risk Management Series is a free program presented by Michigan State University Extension. To participate, registration is required.
