A grain producer at Niverville says the spring wheat harvest looks very promising. Ken Krahn says they got going Monday before being stalled by the rain Tuesday.
2017 08 harvest2"We started on some hard red spring wheat and it seems to be doing fairly well; average yields as well as very good quality, very heavy bushel weight as well as higher protein, so that looks good. The rest of the wheat looks as promising as this field does."
Other farmers we spoke to Wednesday say they are planning to start their wheat harvest Wednesday or Thursday and are optimistic about a decent crop.
Meanwhile, Krahn says they expect to start into canola next week. He adds their corn and soybeans need a good rain but look very promising.
