DuBreton Certified Humane® and Organic Pork Recognized as Industry Leader for Superior Quality Products

Mar 14, 2017

DuBreton®, North America’s #1 producer of Certified Humane Raised and Handled® (Certified Humane®) and organic pork, is pleased to have been recently recognized with a DUX Improved Product – Food Production of Processing Company Award, part of the DUX Eat Better, Live Better program, for its nitrate-free sliced hams. DuBreton’s unique method for producing sliced ham protects the product from harmful bacteria, while preserving the desired colour and flavour. There are no added preservatives, natural or artificial nitrites, or ingredients that contain naturally occurring nitrites, resulting in ham that contains no detectable trace of nitrites.

In 2016, duBreton was also recognized with a DUX jury mention for its $30 million commitment to raising 300,000 more crate-free pigs by 2018. The commitment was announced by duBreton in 2015 and is part of the pork producer’s mission to meeting the growing consumer demand for Certified Humane® and organic pork.

“At duBreton, we measure success based on our ability to produce a product that Canadians can feel good about eating, and we can feel good about producing,” says Vincent Breton, President, duBreton. “We know we are producing pork in the best, most ethical way and the result is a great tasting product that we’re proud to share with North Americans.”

The DUX Award joins other prominent awards recently received by the company, including Desjardins Entrepreneur, International Commerce Award – recognizing duBreton’s contribution to improving the quality of life of people in Canada and elsewhere and meeting specific standards of excellence in the treatment of its animals.

DuBreton is a family-run Canadian business and sources only the best, ethically-produced, Certified Humane® pork from family farms in Ontario and Quebec. All of duBreton’s products in its Organic (green label) and Rustic Farm Pork (blue label) lines are from pigs raised without antibiotics in a crate-free environment and fed a high-quality vegetarian diet. The pigs have free access to shelter and hay or straw bedded resting areas as well as the space and ability to engage in natural behaviours.
