Drought Doubles in Alabama

The latest Drought Monitor, released this morning, shows that the area of moderate (D1) drought in southwest Alabama has more than doubled in size since last week’s map. Areas of abnormally dry (D0) conditions have also expanded. With no rain expected in the next week, it would not surprise me if we see further expansions next week. The drought in Puerto Rico also expanded. Farmers in the wet areas are no doubt looking forward to having dry weather for a change, though, so they can get into their fields.
