Free Workshop Offers Farmers Key Financial Planning Skills

Helping Farmers Improve Tax and Loan Application Knowledge

Farming and ranching involve more than growing crops or raising livestock. To run a successful operation, farmers must understand financial planning, tax rules, and how to apply for government loans.

The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) is hosting a free workshop on August 7. The event is titled “Business Planning and Tax Management for Farmers & Ranchers.” It takes place at the UF/IFAS Extension office in Miami-Dade County.

UF/IFAS is partnering with Texas A&M and Agricultural Finance, Tax, and Asset Protection to deliver the workshop. This in-person event is designed for farmers, ranchers, and agribusiness professionals who want to grow their financial knowledge and improve business performance.

The training covers important topics like creating balance sheets, managing farm taxes, and building strong loan applications. Participants will also learn how to meet the financial training required by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA). For current USDA loan borrowers, attending this workshop will meet that requirement.

One of the main goals of the workshop is to make it easier for farmers to access USDA loan programs. The training gives practical tips to help farmers better understand loan terms and complete the application process with confidence.

This event is part of a larger effort to support farmers and ranchers in building financially secure businesses. By learning these skills, participants can better manage risks, plan, and grow their operations.
