Recognition for Outstanding Service in Agricultural Science
The Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s Chris Lam, Ph.D., has been recognized by Governor Bill Lee with the Governor’s Excellence in Service Award, celebrating his dedication and impact on state government efficiency. Lam is one of 23 state employees selected for their transformative approach to public service.
Dr. Lam is acknowledged for his exceptional skill in performing and interpreting laboratory analyses, which has significantly enhanced service delivery. “His work is often behind the scenes, conducting technical analyses and eliminating unnecessary testing that improve turnaround times and provide cost savings that benefit the state’s taxpayers," explained Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher, D.V.M.
“To be acknowledged for work I enjoy brings a sense of fulfillment,” said Lam, reflecting on his recognition. Beginning his tenure with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture in 2010, Lam has held various influential roles, currently overseeing multiple scientific sections within the Technical Services Division.
Prior to joining the department, Lam was a Senior Research Scientist at Bayer Crop Science, bringing over a decade of industry experience to his role. He earned his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Baylor University after relocating from Hong Kong, where he completed his undergraduate studies.
