CWB's Colonsay Elevator Reaches Latest Milestone with Concrete Pour

Oct 20, 2014
CWB today announced the pouring of the concrete slip for its state-of-the-art grain elevator located near Colonsay, Saskatchewan is now underway.

The 130-foot (40-meter) elevator pour began Wednesday, October 15 and is expected to finish six and a half days later on Tuesday, October 21. When complete, the elevator will feature 42,000 tonnes of storage, cleaning facilities and a 134-car loop track that will facilitate fast and efficient car loading at over 1,600 tonnes per hour.

"The Colonsay elevator was the first CWB elevator construction project announced in Saskatchewan and the slip pour is a significant milestone," said Gord Flaten, Vice-President, Grain Procurement. "We wanted to make sure the slip pour was completed before the Prairie winter started rolling in and we are extremely pleased we kept on target and that the weather continues to cooperate."

Construction of the elevator will continue throughout the fall and winter, and is on track to receive grain for the 2015 harvest. The adjacent CWB office is scheduled to open for business next month with CWB staff on the premises to help farmers with their on-going grain marketing strategies.
