CGC Ready To Issue Compensation Payments In ILTA Grain Case

Jan 07, 2020
The Canadian Grain Commission is cutting cheques for over $11 million dollars in compensation for eligible farmers that were still owed money when ILTA Grain went into creditor protection last year.

Remi Gosselin with the Canadian Grain Commission says all eligible producers will receive 100% compensation through the CGC’s Payment Protection Program for unpaid deliveries.

“Following a review of individual producer claims, we determined that 222 claims were eligible for over $11 million worth of compensation. The Canadian Grain Commission initially assessed 271 individual claims from producers, which was the largest number we have ever received against company security.”

Gosselin says 49 claims totaling $1.5 million dollars were considered to be ineligible because they were outside the claim period or were for ineligible grains – like canaryseed which is not eligible for coverage under the Canada Grain Act.

About 90% of the compensation claims came from Saskatchewan farmers that were still owed money.
