OTTAWA – After a thorough and comprehensive review, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has cancelled the Safe Food for Canadians licence #9K9WDGDF of Usine Amsellem inc, effective January 6, 2020.
The decision was made after the Agency identified during a food safety investigation that it had received false or misleading information and false or misleading statements from the licence holder relating to one test result for Salmonella bacteria.
Effective immediately, Usine Amsellem inc. is no longer able to conduct any activity that is identified in their licence such as preparing food for export or to be sent or conveyed from one province or territory to another.
A recall of dry beef sausage produced by this licence holder was published on December 4, 2019, due to possible Salmonella contamination. Although no cases of illness associated with the consumption of this product have been reported, the CFIA took the necessary measures to protect consumers as soon as it was determined that a product was potentially contaminated.
CFIA has now concluded the food safety investigation and no additional recalls are expected in respect of this investigation.
