Initiatives to strengthen tribal food systems and forestry
During the 2024 White House Tribal Nations Summit, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack announced $45 million in new funding designed to empower Tribal Nations and strengthen their food systems and forestry management.
This new wave of funding includes $20 million from the U.S. Forest Service to assist Tribes in managing forests sustainably and accessing emerging climate markets.
An additional $25 million will support small to mid-sized Tribal farm and food businesses, enhancing their market opportunities and regional development.
Secretary Vilsack underscored the commitment of the Administration to support Tribal Nations - “The Biden-Harris Administration has listened to Tribal Nations, and USDA is proud to answer with actions that empower Tribal Nation self-determination and food sovereignty,” he said.
