For context, Mosaic Stadium has an area of about 12 acres. This means the total area of farmland available for auction could fit about 844 Mosaic Stadiums.
“The Big Spread will appeal to the farmer looking for land for crop production, or a rancher looking to expand their operation with 60 quarters that could easily tend to the herd,” the auction’s description says.
In 2022, the farm produced more than 5,000 tons of silage.
The land is divided up into 11 parcels.
Parcels one to nine can be purchased en bloc (all together).
Individually, parcel number two has the highest starting bid.
This parcel of about 2,549 acres has a starting bid of $2.8 million.
“This large tract of land is rife with opportunity; take advantage of $3.80 calf prices this fall and confidently drop off 1,100 cow-calf pairs in one location that is graced with a plenitude of grass and water,” the parcel listing says.
Of the total acres available, more than 7,700 are pasture and another 2,000 are cultivated.
Parcel seven has 794 cultivated acres, the most of any individual parcel.
In addition, parcel seven includes a shop, a hip roof barn and one of two homes.
The parcel listings don’t include much crop production information.
Except for parcel 11.
“The cultivated acres on this half-section were seeded to canola in 2023,” the listing reads. “There is an older yard site, with power, situated in the centre of parcel 11, with a view of the Souris River as it meanders through the parcel.”
