The Canadian ag industry will have representation opportunities during trade missions in 2024.

Trade Minister Mary Ng is calling on companies from ag and other sectors to participate in trade missions to Malaysia, Vietnam and South Korea this coming March and April.

Canadian reps will spend time in Malaysia from March 24 to 26.

In 2021, Malaysia imported about $200 million of Canadian agri-food and seafood products. Potash fertilizers, oilseeds and cereals are top products, Canadian government data says.

From March 27 to 29, the Canadian delegation will visit with reps in Vietnam.

Between 2015 and 2017, Vietnam imported nearly $300 million per year of Canadian ag products like wheat, flax and pork, government data shows. Vietnam also purchased about $65 million annually of fertilizer during that time.

The deadline to register to attend this trade mission is Jan. 12.

Vietnam and Malaysia are partners with Canada in the CPTPP.

A Canadian delegation will head back to Asia near the end of April.

A trade mission is scheduled for South Korea between April 21 and 25.

South Korea and Canada trade under the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement.

Canada exported more than $1 billion of ag products to South Korea in 2022, representing about 2.5 per cent of the market share.

Top ag exports from Canada to South Korea that year included canola oil, wheat and pork.

The deadline for companies to register for this trade mission is also Jan. 12.
