
The 4-H motto is “Learn to Do by Doing” which meant a lot of trying and sometimes failing over the years. But these experiences weren’t a bad thing. Sometimes, you must try something before you know exactly how to do it. Learning that lesson at an early age gives you confidence for later in life.
I can point to many instances when my siblings and I tried something new in 4-H that we didn’t quite know how to do. Our first time clipping our cattle was a big mess. We learned that you should trim your animals well before the show date in case you mess up. We made a lot of mistakes but, eventually, we got better at the task. We learned what to do and what not to do. We also learned tricks along the way, too.
These experiences have given me the confidence to jump in and try a new job, a novel workout or even fresh recipes when cooking. Some of these accomplishments may sound small, but some of the best e
