Keith Currie acclaimed as new CFA president

He takes over for Mary Robinson

An Ontario producer is the new president of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA).

Keith Currie, a former president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture who grows hay and sweet corn near Collingwood, Ont., was acclaimed as the organization’s new president during its AGM in Ottawa on Monday.

Currie takes over for May Robinson, who indicated she would not be seeking re-election. Robinson, a P.E.I. farmer, became CFA president in 2019 and is the first woman to hold the position.

Prior to his acclamation as president, Currie served as the organization’s first vice president.

Todd Lewis, the former president of Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan (APAS), will fill that role.

“It’s an honour to work on behalf of Saskatchewan’s farmers at the national stage,” Lewis said in an APAS release. “We are innovation and environmental leaders in our farm management practices and representing Saskatchewan’s perspective on the national stage is tremendously important and I am deeply humbled to have been chosen”.

Lewis was the CFA’s second vice president before his acclamation.

Stepping into that role now will be Pierre Lampron, a dairy farmer from Mauricie, Que., and president of Dairy Farmers of Canada.

Lampron was already a member of the CFA’s board of directors, but his new role will see him be involved with the organization’s executive leadership.
