Hawaiian Company Recalls Beef Products Due to Potential E. coli Contamination

The U.S Department of Agriculture has announced that Honolulu, Hawaii-based Higa Meat & Pork Market is recalling over 4,000 pounds of ground beef products due to potential E. coli contamination. The recalled product in question is their 10_lb bags of “Higa Market – Ground Beef Bulk”.

The recalled beef product was produced on Wednesday October 17, 2012 and was distributed to restaurants on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Recalled cases are marked with the establishment number “"EST. 12457M" inside the USDA mark of inspection, with identifying case code number “291”.

There have been no reported cases of illness associated with the recalled ground beef product. Consumers are reminded that E. coli can pose severe health risks, especially to young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
