New certification initiative makes it easy to identify authentic Canadian wool products

The Canadian Wool Collective has introduced a national certification program to help consumers – including fellow farmers -- easily identify Canadian wool and wool-based products. This initiative aims to promote local, sustainable, and responsibly-produced textiles.

The certification includes three tiers:

  • 100% Canadian Wool: Grown and processed in Canada (Launched August 2024)

  • 100% Canadian Wool: Grown in Canada but processed elsewhere (Launched January 2025)

  • Blends with 50%+ Canadian Wool: Now Live!

The logo features a small sheep and the words “100% Canadian Wool: Grown & Milled,” ensuring the authenticity of the product. As consumer interest in local and sustainable products grows, the wool industry is seeing an increase in demand for Canadian-made textiles, including clothing, yarn, and household goods.

The certification program has already registered nearly 50 producers, including farmers, yarn mills, and textile artisans. Products range from raw wool and yarn to blankets, clothing, and even wool-based soil amendments. Consumers can find these certified products at local fiber festivals, yarn stores, and markets across Canada.

The Canadian Wool Collective, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to promoting Canadian wool’s value and traceability. With the support of farmers, processors, and designers, this initiative aims to establish the certification logo as a national symbol of quality. Full details can be found on the Canadian Wool Collective’s website.
