As Father’s Day is on Sunday (don’t forget!) Farms.com reached out to members of Ontario’s ag community to find out the best part about either being a farm dad or growing up with one.

For Bill Lammers, a grain farmer from Lambton County, Father’s Day provides a chance to reflect on and appreciate how hard his dad worked to provide for his family.

“My dad immigrated here from Holland to farm and raise a family. He ended up with five boys who all ended up farming in some capacity,” he told Farms.com. “He did everything around the farm from driving equipment to milking cows. I think he instilled a hard work ethic in all five of us that we carry to this day.”

Earl Becker, a cash crop producer from Huron County, recalled some of the time he spent with his father on the family farm.

“He had me out on the tractor (with him) at a very young age,” he told Farms.com.

Becker also remembers the times when his dad had to be stern with him as a young boy.

“I definitely remember getting some warnings from (my dad) about what not do to because I’d get hurt, or my mom telling me to just wait until my dad got home,” Becker said with a laugh. “I bet all farm dads have to spend some time chasing their kids around.”

For David Giffen, a cash crop and sheep farmer from Middlesex County and a father of two, the best part about being a farm dad is how much time he gets to spend with his son and daughter on the farm.

“I love the farming lifestyle,” he said. “It’s nice to know that they’re around on the farm and want to spend time with you in the field.”

Farms.com would like to wish all the farm dads out there a Happy Father’s Day!
